Alum Spotlight: The Rev. Kristin Krantz '06

After graduating from EDS in 2006, the Rev. Kristin Krantz was ordained to the transitional diaconate in her sponsoring diocese, Chicago, before moving to California. There she began serving her first call as the Associate Rector at All Souls Parish in Berkeley, CA. In December of that year she was ordained to the priesthood at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Kristin served at All Souls for eight years through both a rector transition and a structural transition to address church growth. In 2014 she moved to Maryland, first serving as the interim rector at Memorial, Bolton Hill, in Baltimore, and then as rector of St. James’, Mt. Airy.

During her time in Maryland Kristin has served on the Standing Committee, the Congregational Vitality Committee, and the Liturgy Resource Team. In 2019 she was called to serve as the Director for the College for Congregational Development (CCD) in the Diocese of Maryland (concurrent with her congregational work), which was launched in 2021.

In January 2024 Kristin joined the Diocese of Maryland’s staff as the Canon for Transitions. She continues to direct CCD, and in spring 2024 joined the Steering Team for the College for Congregational Development system.

“EDS formed me in so many powerful ways, both personally and professionally,” shared the Rev. Krantz. “To this day I continue to do my own work around anti-racism and privilege, folding in insights and learnings from new scholarship. I now use these tools in working with congregations as they prepare to call new clergy leadership. Also, it was in a class with Bill Kondrath that I first encountered the field of congregational development. That sparked an ongoing passion that has woven its way throughout all of my ministry.”
