Bonnie Anderson, president of the House of Deputies and honorary degree recipient from Episcopal Divinity School, gave a rousing speech on the opening of the 77th General Convention of the Episcopal Church, using the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States to remind those assembled of the democratic heritage of the Episcopal Church and the importance of living up to that tradition.

Episcopal Divinity School Welcomes Christi Humphrey ’08 as new Director of Alumni/ae and Constituent Engagement

EDS alumna Christi Humphrey was recently hired for a newly created position of Director of Alumni/ae and Constituent Engagement. In this new role Humphrey will oversee and direct outreach, programming, engagement, and stewardship strategies for alumni/ae, parishes, organizations, and friends of Episcopal Divinity School. She will work closely with staff and volunteers to develop new alumni/ae relations program initiatives and explore opportunities to strengthen existing programs.

Dr. Fredrica Harris Thompsett Elected to Executive Council of Episcopal Church

Dr. Fredrica Harris Thompsett, Mary Wolfe Professor of Historical Theology at EDS, was elected on the first ballot as a lay member for the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church for a six-year term. The election was held at the 77th General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 10. She is a member of the Diocese of Massachusetts’ deputation to the General Convention.

On May 3, 2012, Dr. Ingrid Mattson spoke on American Muslim communities and Christian-Muslim relations in the first Kellogg Lecture, a part of Episcopal Divinity School’s Alumni/ae Days event, “From Monologue to Dialogue: Exploring World Religions to Promote a Culture of Peace.” The two-day series of events promotes the enrichment of knowledge and understanding of other faith traditions.

New Students Welcomed to Episcopal Divinity School

On Wednesday, June 6, 2012, new students, hailing from a wide range of hometowns across the country such as Anchorage, Alaska, San Antonio, Texas, and Winter Park, Florida, affirmed their commitment to the “service of God through the life and ministry of this school” at a noontime Matriculation Service held in St. John’s Memorial Chapel at the Episcopal Divinity School.

Six from EDS Attend Preaching Excellence Program

Six EDS students and recent graduates just returned from attending the Preaching Excellence Program, which took place from May 27 through June 1 in Roslyn, VA. The conference was sponsored by the Episcopal Preaching Foundation and was attended by over 60 seminarians. Current EDS students Paula Toland, Brian Gross, Bryan Pearson, Joslyn Schaefer, and recent EDS graduates Lavonne Seifert and Bill Knutson (left to right) were nominated by EDS to attend.
