The Rev. Dr. William M. Kondrath Elected President-Elect of the Academy of Religious Leadership (ARL)
On April 21, at the Academy of Religious Leadership annual meeting in Seattle, the Rev. Dr. William M. Kondrath, William Lawrence Professor of Pastoral Theology and Director of Theological Field Education at Episcopal Divinity School, was elected president-elect of the Academy of Religious Leadership (ARL). He will become president of ARL in April 2013.
“I am delighted to serve on the board of ARL in a leadership capacity because ARL is a community of professors, researchers, pastors, and students who collaborate to enhance leadership education through their annual scholarly roundtable and the publication of the Journal of Religious Leadership (JRL). The goals of ARL dovetail with the goal of EDS to educate lay and ordained leaders to ‘advance God’s mission of justice, compassion, and reconciliation’ in Christ’s church and the world. I am thrilled to help further this important work.”
The community of scholars and students that compose ARL collaborate to enhance leadership education in theological institutions, convene a roundtable of leadership educators in order to help develop faculty, and foster and disseminate leadership education and research at these institutions.
“We are proud of Dr. Kondrath’s work with the ARL. EDS is deeply committed to preparing leaders who can form and nurture communities, effectively minister, and work for justice in an evolving world. We are pleased that Dr. Kondrath's leadership of ARL will position him to pursue these goals that EDS and ARL share,” said President and Dean of EDS, The Very Rev. Dr. Katherine Ragsdale.
In 2010, Kondrath presented the closing plenary talk of that year’s annual meeting entitled, “Transitioning from Charismatic Founder to the Next Generation,” which was then published in an issue of the Journal of Religious Leadership dedicated to charisma and religious leadership.
