International Congress of Ethnic Chinese Biblical Scholars Honors EDS Professor Gale Yee

Dr. Gale A. Yee, Nancy W. King Professor of Biblical Studies at EDS, was honored at the 2014 International Congress of Ethnic Chinese Biblical Scholars (ICECBS) in Hong Kong on August 19.

The ICECBS honored Dr. Yee as a Qianbei, which roughly translates as "respected elder," in recognition of her scholarship in "areas of feminist biblical interpretation and Asian American hermeneutics." Dr. Yee, who was one of ten awardees, was also lauded as a "scholar grounded in traditional historical critical methods [who also] incorporates newer technologies in the study of biblical text."

The Divinity School of Chung Chi College, Chinese University of Hong Kong, hosted the fourth International Congress of Ethnic Chinese Biblical Scholars from August 18 to 20, 2014.

The Congress seeks to recognize and encourage biblical scholarship among ethnic Chinese biblical scholars, to create a lively network of ethnic Chinese scholars from Asia and in the Diaspora, to support one another in its endeavors, and to identify and nurture the next generation of ethnic Chinese biblical scholars.
