CAMBRIDGE, MA, July 1, 2013—The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church awarded Episcopal Asia Ministries (EAM) and Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) a Constable Fund grant of $66,000 on June 10. Other grant recipients included Provinces, Dioceses, Commissions, Agencies, Boards and affiliated institutions of the church. The Constable Fund grants are allocated for mission initiatives that are outside the budget of the Episcopal Foreign Missionary Society (DFMS).
The EAM-EDS project addresses the need of Asiamerican clergy and lay leaders to obtain advanced pastoral studies and continuing theological education that will equip them for effective ministry in the 21st century. The program will bring Asian ministers with Master of Divinity degrees to the EDS Distributive Learning program and combine residential training with online learning. The successful candidates will earn a Doctor of Ministry from EDS and their dissertation papers will be accessible for use in the Episcopal Church.
The project was spearheaded by Dr. Kwok Pui Lan of EDS in collaboration with Asiamerica Ministries Office, Partnership Office for Asia and the Pacific.
