Theological Field Education

Field education is a critical component of a student’s formation for ministry. Through immersion in a congregation, chaplaincy, or non-profit agency, students clarify their calling and gain greater capacity for offering transformative leadership. A good field education placement utilizes a student’s existing skills and stretches them to grow vocationally and gain greater self-awareness.

EDS offers a wide array of excellent site possibilities in the greater Boston area for residential students. In addition to sites affiliated with EDS, students may consider working with sites affiliated with another BTI school. Distance learning students work with the director of field education to identify sites near to them.

MDiv students complete two units of supervised field education. Clinical Pastoral Education may be counted as one of these units.
